Ferntree Gully is far enough from the city to offer country style living but is close enough to commute daily. Located at the foothills to the Dandenongs it has a variety of parks and wild life to entertain the avid naturalist. Ferntree Gully, initially known as Fern Tree Gully is named after the gully that runs from One Tree Hill to the Upper Ferntree Gully Township. The picturesque scenery and lush flora, one of the Gully’s main attractions has been inviting to visitors from as far back as the 1870’s.
It is a safe and peaceful suburb with lots of public amenities including library and community centre, where the Knox Festival is held in March every year, Mountain gate Shopping centre, the Dandenong Ranges National Park Walking Trails and bike tracks including the 1000 Steps or Kokoda track walking trail.
It is a good place to bring up a family with many schools, kindergartens and parks to play. There are also a numerous international restaurants where you can grab a hearty dinner at a sensible price.
A local railway station provides links outside of the district together with regular bus services throughout the area. From Eastlink the beach is only a 20 minute drive and the City just 30 minutes away from your door. The precinct has a huge modern little athletics facility second only to Olympic Park. There are numerous football, cricket and soccer clubs together with dog training, bicycle tracks and a golf course. With a country like community atmosphere and the benefit of great infrastructure, Ferntree Gully is an excellent choice for city convenience, amidst the views and tranquility of the green treed surroundings.
